For years, Megann knew food styling and photography was her true calling, but balancing work and family left little room to pursue it. Cooking and capturing images became her therapy after birthing complications following the birth of her son, leading her to start a food blog, Megann’s Kitchen, in 2010, which became one of Australia’s top 100 women’s blogs.
The pivotal moment came when Megann lost a dear friend, Alicia, to cancer. Alicia was a young mother and wife, leaving Megann with the realization that life is too short to delay dreams. The very next day, Megann left her retail job and committed full-time to her business —
she hasn't looked back since.
Megann grew up in Myrtleford, a small town in Victoria’s Alpine Region, where her American mother’s Southern-inspired home cooking and her Australian father’s passion for photography shaped her creative path. While she wasn’t allowed to touch anything in the kitchen, she soaked in every detail—especially when pies were involved! Her father’s 1970s Olympus OM-1 sparked her love for photography, leading her to a career behind the lens. This is a film camera she proudly still has today.
After earning a diploma in Visual Arts & Visual Merchandising at RMIT Melbourne, Megann pursued styling and photography, gaining experience with Better Homes & Gardens, Women's Weekly, and Inside Out Magazine. She later built a thriving baking business, but her true passion always led back to food photography.
Since launching Megann Evans Photography in 2018, she has worked with high-profile clients like Kuro Sydney, Tassal Super Salmon, Coca-Cola Amatil, and luxury hotels including Sofitel and Spicers Retreats. Now based in Newcastle, she’s a sought-after photographer, stylist, and recipe developer specializing in food, beverage, and hospitality imagery.
I LOVE IT! I used to ski instruct & the mountain is where my heart soars. The snow is where I will always be happy and feel at home.
The kitchen is a happy place for me. It's a form of relaxing therapy to be calm and find control.
Martha Stewart Entertaining is my bible, so I love to fill people bellies with good food, wine & laughter. I modelled my wedding from her weddings mag (which I shipped from the US!)
Don't get me started... a good wine/bubbles/G&T/cocktail with a decadent grazing cheese board with allllll the goodies makes afternoons a good one.
Nothing wrong with a power nap (or two... ) is there??? They seriously keep me going throughout the day... just like coffee does.
I am a true creative with a racing mind until the weeee hours & cannot sleep at all well... hence I am mostly made up of good quality lattes in my veins in the mornings.
